Boston Public Garden becomes a public park.

(ca.) Designed by George Meacham, the park is renovated to include the lagoon in 1861, replacement of the wooden perimeter fence by an iron fence in 1862, construction of the lagoon bridge in 1867,* and is completed on June 1, 1867. The swan boats introduced in 1877.* The park subsequently houses a number of significant sculptures and monument, including many by women artists.
